In July i went to London for a whole week. On my own. I spent the days just walking around, walking to Hyde Park, Moorgate, Shoreditch, see some bands, get a pint or two in a pub and come home to my Hostel very very tired and very very happy. For someone who is generally quite afraid of being alone with herself i managed it well. I soaked up everything London had to offer and felt genuinely content and at ease. I think the photos show that. I squeezed in a trip to Brighton, i'll show you some photos of tomorrow. Read: next week.

My Saturday in Photobooth.

I finally got my hands on the third book of the 1Q84-series by Murakami. I saw it, i grabbed it (i paid) and then i read the first 30 pages straight away, whilst walking.

And while the evening progresses and plans are in the making i fill my kitchen with the smell of roasted cauliflower and the sounds of my Howlin' Wolf-compilation i picked up in Brighton.

Promise a HUGE update tomorrow with Summer and Autumn and London and Berlin and all the other Shenanigans.

Remembering this years Indie Pop Days and all the dedicated, enthusiastic and lovely people i met and knew already.

I presented the bands and shared a stage with the Wave Pictures, Darren Hanlon, Woodpigeon and many more.

Scariest thing i've done in a while, but in a good way. Probably the first time in my whole life my hands were actually shaking with excitement.

Ken Allen, the "hairy Houdini"

Ken Allen was born in captivity at the San Diego Zoo in 1971. During the 1980s, Ken Allen gained worldwide attention for a series of three escapes from his enclosure, which had been thought to be escape-proof. During his escapes, first on June 13, 1985, again on July 29, 1985, and on August 13, 1985, Ken Allen would peacefully stroll around the zoo looking at other animals, and never acted violently or aggressively towards zoo patrons or other animals. Zookeepers were initially stymied over how Ken Allen had managed to escape. They began surveillance of his enclosure to try to catch him in the act, only to find that Ken Allen seemed to be aware that he was being watched for that very purpose. This forced zookeepers to go "undercover", posing as tourists to learn Ken Allen's escape route, but Ken Allen wasn't fooled. Moreover, other orangutans began following Ken Allen's lead and began escaping from the enclosure

Finally digitalized some of the pictures from when i went to London and everything was wonderful and pretty and when i went to Paris and rainclouds were chasing me down every street.

In Paris i used my friend M.'s Praktica she got from her Dad.

I have never ever been asked about my camera so often ever before.

In London i had a Rollei b/w single-use camera.

So much money i spent on that little project and it made me painfully realize that shooting in b/w is quite a challenge. Nevertheless i am very pleased and happy with how the pictures turned out.

Impressive.

Die Künstlerin Juliana Santacruz Herrera verschönert die schlaglöchrigen Strassen von Paris mit buntem Flechtwerk. Und schon hab ich eine Aufgabe für die nächsten Wochen.

Artist Juliana Santacruz Herrera fills ugly potholes in the streets of Paris with loads and loads of colourful braided yarn. Very inspirational and exactly the kind of task i need for the next weeks.

Irgendwie fühlt es sich unwirklich an,

all die tollen Nächte

und dann auch noch Hinterhofgeräusche, Kindergeschrei, Vogelgezwitscher und Sonne beim Aufwachen. Vielleicht war es einfach zu lange Winter. Der Winter macht misstrauisch.

Meine Ostertage bestanden/bestehen jedenfalls aus langen Nächten ohne Jacke mit den besten Leuten der Welt, Safranrisotto, Blumen pflanzen, Bücher lesen und endlich einem neuen Badeanzug.

Somehow it feels unreal to have all these endless, splendid nights with the best people in the world and then, like a cherry on top, the next morning i wake up to backyard noises, sunshine and bird's twittering. Maybe it has just been winter for too long. Winter makes you wary.

Du måste tror det finns nåt episkt över dig. You have to believe, there's something epic about yourself.

Cuban Tree Frog, Florida

This is a Cuban tree frog on a tree in my backyard in southern Florida. How and why he ate this light is a mystery. It should be noted that at the time I was taking this photo, I thought this frog was dead, having cooked himself from the inside. I’m happy to say I was wrong. After a few shots he adjusted his position. So after I was finished shooting him, I pulled the light out of his mouth and he was fine. Actually, I might be crazy but I don’t think he was very happy when I took his light away.

Ist da für jedes Gefühl ein Magnetic Fields-Lied und egal wie allein man sich fühlt, man weiss das es zumindest Stephin Merritt schon mal so oder so ähnlich ging. Das hilft.
Die Dokumentation zur Band (namens "Strange Powers-Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields") ist leider eher weniger empfehlenswert und wird dieser Band nicht annähernd gerecht. Sie mäandert irgendwo zwischen dem, was man auf einer illegalen Bootleg-DVD vermuten würde und einer Reportage in der InTouch.

And suddenly. For every feeling there's a Magnetic Fields-Song and no matter how lonely you feel, at least you know that Stephin Merritt must've once in his life felt pretty much the same. It helps.
The Documentary (called Strange Powers- Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields) is unfortunately not even close to being good or even doing the band justice. It meanders somewhere between something you would find on an illegal Bootleg-DVD and a Tabloid-Story.

Ich habe nämlich das erste Mal in meinem Leben Teppich verlegt. Der Finger ist noch dran, aber es war knapp wie man sieht.

I am possibly maybe a Grown-Up now. I laid out a carpet in my bedroom yesterday. The finger's still in one piece, but it was close as you can see.

As I was walking down Stanton Street one Sunday morning,

I saw a chicken a few yards ahead of me.

I was walking faster than the chicken, so I gradually caught up.
By the time we approached Eighteenth Avenue,

I was close behind.
The chicken turned south on Eighteenth.
At the fourth house along, it turned in at the walk,

hopped up the front steps, and rapped sharply on the metal storm door with its beak.

Teil des National Story Project, das von Paul Auster initiiert wurde. Ein Geschichtenerzälprojekt des National Public Radio in dem Paul Auster dazu aufrief, ihm Geschichten zu schicken.

Wahre Geschichten, die den gängigen Vorstellungen der Welt zuwiderliefen.

Grosse und kleine Dinge, tragische und komische Begebenheiten, jederlei Erfahrung, die es wert schienen, niedergeschrieben zu werden.
In diesem Buch zusammengefasst sind 126 Geschichten,

unterteilt in verschiedenen Überbegriffe wie "Fremde", "Gegenstände", "Krieg", "Träume" oder "Liebe".

Ich lese das Buch jetzt zum dritten Mal innerhalb eines Jahres und es wird nie weniger sondern immer nur mehr.

Gestern den Tag mit Fika verbracht.
Und Laufen, endloses Laufen.

Falls ihr mich in Stockholm besucht, könnt ihr davon ausgehn das ich euch früher oder später in mein Lieblingscafè "Vurma" schleppen werde.
"Att vurma" heisst soviel wie Süssholz raspeln und dort bekommt man die besten veganen Snickerriegel, auch bekannt als Babe Ruth Bars , und den besten Kaffee in der Stadt.
Ausserdem kann man den Ausblick auf den Kanal geniessen und sich zum Beispiel fragen, wie lange ein Schokoriegel wohl bei dieser Hitze braucht um zu schmelzen. Weniger als 1 Minute. Self-Test.

Nebenbei in der schwedischen ELLE geblättert.
Irgendjemand hatte auf nahezu jeder 2ten oder 3ten Seite Knöpfe, Fingerhüte, flache Anhänger und Ähnliches aufgenäht. Es zog sich durch das gesamte Magazin. Fast so schön wie die Strickguerillas oder Garden Guerillas, die u.a. in England um Strassenlampen und Parkbänke herumstricken und öffentliche Gärten verschönern

Auf dem Heimweg nach Sundbyberg dann on the wrong side of the tracks ausgestiegen, noch mehr rumgelaufen, das erste Mal verlaufen und verloren gefühlt und am Ende dann damit belohnt worden:

Den Aspekt "Umweltschutz" mal ausser Acht gelassen war das wunderschön anzusehn. Es war windig und der Brunnen steht an einer vielbefahrenen Strasse, der ganze Schaum segelte durch die Luft.Bei strahlendem Sonnenschein. Auf dem zweiten Bild sieht man den Spruch "Konsten är Ögats Godis", Kunst ist die Süssigkeit des Auges. Seufz.
